What information can a VCF file contain?

A vCard can include a person’s name, company, job title, phone numbers, email addresses, postal addresses, websites, notes, birthday and an embedded contact photo. One VCF file may contain a single contact or an entire exported address book.

What creates VCF files?

Contact and email applications on phones, computers and web services use VCF files to exchange address-book entries. Exported files commonly use vCard version 2.1, 3.0 or 4.0.

Does opening a VCF import contacts?

Some contact apps immediately offer to add a vCard to your address book. FormatPeek only displays the file, so you can inspect its contents before deciding whether to import it.

Can a VCF contain multiple contacts?

Yes. Each contact is enclosed in its own vCard block. The viewer above lists every readable contact separately and lets you search the collection.

Is a VCF file safe?

A VCF is primarily structured text, but it can contain links, notes and embedded data. Review unexpected files before importing them. FormatPeek does not upload or automatically add their contacts.
