MPP troubleshooting

Use these checks when an MPP file will not upload, parse or display as expected.

Confirm the file type

Make sure the actual filename ends in .mpp. Renaming an XML, XLSX or PDF file to .mpp does not convert it.

Check the file size

FormatPeek accepts files up to 30 MB. Large project plans may need to be reduced or exported by the file owner.

Try a clean browser session

Reload the page, disable extensions that block requests, and try a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox. A corporate firewall may also block the parser connection.

Check protection and corruption

Password-protected, incomplete or corrupted project files may not be readable. Ask the sender to open the file in Microsoft Project and save a fresh copy.

Missing or different information

Some custom fields, formatting and release-specific features may not map to this viewer. The original Microsoft Project file remains unchanged.
