What is an OXPS file?

OXPS is the file extension used for OpenXPS documents. Like XPS and PDF, it describes a document as fixed pages so that text and graphics remain in their intended positions.

What is the difference between XPS and OXPS?

The formats are closely related but use different versions of the specification. Some older applications recognize .xps but not .oxps, which is why an OXPS file may fail to open even when an XPS reader is installed.

Should I rename OXPS to XPS?

No. Changing the filename extension does not convert the document’s internal format and may make troubleshooting harder. Use a viewer that supports OpenXPS or convert the file with software that explicitly supports OXPS.

Why does an OXPS page look incomplete?

Fixed-layout documents can contain embedded fonts, vector brushes, transparency and print-specific resources. Lightweight viewers may not reproduce every advanced effect. If exact output is required, compare it with a compatible Windows viewer or request a PDF from the sender.
