How to find Microsoft XPS Viewer

On many Windows installations, XPS Viewer is an optional feature rather than a preinstalled app. Open Settings and search for Optional features, then search the available features for XPS Viewer. Menu names and availability can differ by Windows edition, organization policy and system version.

What if XPS Viewer is missing?

If your computer does not offer the optional feature, a browser-based viewer is the quickest way to inspect the document. On a managed work computer, your administrator may have disabled optional-feature installation. You can also ask the sender for a PDF copy when exact printing is important.

Does this work on both Windows 10 and Windows 11?

Yes. FormatPeek runs in a modern browser, so it does not depend on the Windows XPS Viewer app. It supports common XPS and OpenXPS documents on both Windows 10 and Windows 11.

XPS versus OXPS on Windows

Windows may create either format depending on the application and print driver. OXPS follows the OpenXPS standard and may not open in older XPS software. Read the OXPS file guide if a file with the .oxps extension will not open.
